Your hamster may be trying to protect his or her teritory. Or He might want more food or a more brood veritiy of food. Or he could simply just want to spend more time with you and doesn't like being cooped up in a cage. Hope this helps!

Please do not let him crew on the bars. There could be lead in the paint on them, but even if not lead paint it's very harmful to their tiny bodies. Ours both chewed on the bars. The dark one seems to chew more than the other and she developed a tumor in her belly, foot, and other places. She died within a few weeks after the growth was noticed in the belly. Her sister, the tan one, began to chew on them at times also, her tumor was in her pouch. It got huge and spread to her back and foot. She died as well. Very tragic, her death. Very painful at the end. Coughed up blood and panicked in her final moments. If yours chews a lot, please get a different cage!

I started to notice that when the wheel didn't work properly or she was bored and wanted out she would do it more. They also love to chew (need to, actually) I gave them a dried up beef jerky dog treat that was very hard and it would keep them from chewing on the bars for a while.

This is kind of natural. My hamster loved to do that so I gave her a hamster treat and she started chewing on that. Try to give it a treat or maybe a small piece of wood (for hamsters not from the ground) and give it to her. She should stop chewing on her cage. Hope this Helps!!

They usually do that because there teeth grow constantly and they have to wear them down somehow

you can stop him doing that if you buy him some wooden toys and some treats, that is how i stopped my 6 hamsters doing that
