What Is The Alexander Technique?

Answer Question

the Alexander Technique was devised by an Australian actor, Frederick M Alexander (1869-1955).  It is based around the central tenet that poor posture and jerky or faulty body movements all contribute to ill health.  With the Alexander Technique, gentle exercises and movements are used to teach pupils how to stand, move and exist without undue stress on the body.  It is taught by 'teachers' and the patient is referred to as a 'pupil'.
The Alexander Technique can help to improve physical co-ordination and through the breathing exercises, some actors find it quite useful in order to project their voices as well as helping with stage fright.

However, it is also reputedly very good for redressing mental and emotional imbalances (once the body becomes balanced, the mind does too).  As a result of this it is also thought to reduce stress, whilst using energy efficiently, thereby enabling people to do more tasks, whilst actually using less energy.

Alexander technique is used to enhance the physiological and psychological functioning of an individual. As named after the originator of the methodology Frederick Alexander, it is the process following which one can restore his or her bodily freedom along with an optimum level of psychological balance.

After doing an extended research for almost 10 years, Frederick Alexander concluded that the modernism primarily causes a detrimental effect on human locomotion leading to the dysfunction in other parts of the body in effect.

Alexander technique is found to be beneficial in both physical and mental level. Different renowned persons of different times have also accepted it as a powerful mode for enhancing and managing high blood pressure, depth of sleep, overall cheerfulness, mental alertness, pliability against stressors as well as aesthetic qualities.

The primary focus of Alexander technique is proper coordination of muscle. In doing this, Frederick Alexander first focused in the development of sensory awareness among the participants followed by inhibition of tension. The process is initiated with the head to place freely on the spine along with the eyes open and focused. The shoulders must be released and knees should be unlocked. This will eventually lead in reducing strain by employing a fluid and coordinated movement.
