The easiest way to define black holes is to say they are objects whose gravity is so strong that nothing -- neither particles nor light -- can escape from it. To escape would require a speed greater than that of light, which is not allowed. Supposedly, it is the remains of a supermassive star that has exploded and collapsed in on itself.

Black Holes are objects so denser and having so gravitational pull that no matter and even light can pass through it. The only method of locating a black hole is by observing its gravitational pulls on different objects. Scientists measure the impacts of gravitational pulls by these bodies on other objects to spot a black hole and it is sometimes hard to measure the extent of pulls on different bodies. X-ray Source Cygnus X-1 is said to be a giant star and a black hole.
It is believed that when energy in a very giant star starts to diminish it begins to collapse itself. As a result of this star start to shrink and force of gravity at its surface starts to get stronger and stronger. The Star then vanishes from the sight but continue to collapse until it is squeezed into an unimaginable small point. This point is surrounded by a region of space with gravity so powerful that nothing, not even rays of light can escape. This region of space is termed by Astronomers as a Black Hole.
Many scientists believe that giant black holes exist at the centers of the large number of galaxies and they usually lie at the center of a galaxy.

All I really know is that they suck anything they get a hold of, and once something is in a black hole, it can never, ever get out.

A black hole is a point in space where everything gets turned to nothing. It's gravity is so stong that nothing, not even light can escape from it. A black hole is also a star which has exploded into a supernova, and then has collapsed on itself.
