Where Are All The Tate Galleries Located?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

There are four Tate galleries in total; two in London, one in Liverpool and one in St Ives. The largest of these is the Tate Modern, a sprawling ex-power station on London's South Bank. The entire Tate Collection comprises the entire British collection of post-1500 art, with Tate Modern housing all post-1900 works. It is soon to be extended with a new, Cubist-inspired exhibition space to be added.

Tate Britain is located on the other side of the Thames, with a boat service linking the two. The Britain collection places special emphasis on Blake, Turner and Constable, arguably the most influential British artists of all time. The Liverpool and St Ives buildings were opened with the intention of spreading the Tate Collection across the country. These galleries are smaller and often run specialist exhibitions, with Tate St Ives placing an emphasis, for example, on ceramics.
