How Does A Turbo Inter-cooler Work In A Diesel Engine?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

A turbo charger compresses air and feeds it into the engine, more air (and more fuel) gives more power. Unfortunately compressing air makes it hotter and hotter air produces less power then cold air.

An inter-cooler is simply a heat exchanger (radiator) that cools off the air after its compressed by the turbo charger. Since its cooler it makes more power.
