I have 4 cards – one for gas, one for food, one for vacations, and another for emergencies. Ideally speaking, how many credit cards should you have?

Not bad. You sure have your priorities laid out there. Most experts and credit card service companies such as Billshrink.com assure us that there is no universal tab on the number of credit cards that you can own. You could carry, say, 10 credit cards and have excellent credit; or just one with terrible credit. The amount you spend and can pay off is what matters most. But a good average is between three and seven credit cards.
