Where Is East Kilbride?

    East Kilbride is a large city situated in South Lanarkshire, Scotland. It is approximately 15km south of Glasgow, and 8km west of Hamilton. The Rotten Calder flows north towards the Clyde to the east part of East Kilbride. East Kilbride derives its name from an Irish saint, St Bride, which is also known as Brigit. It was during the 6th Century that he founded a monastery for nuns and monks in Kildare, Ireland. The meaning of Kil is church or burial place. The population here is approximately 81,000.

    Some of the main areas in East Kilbride are Birniehill, Calderwood, College Milton, East Mains, Gardenhall, Greenhills, Hairmyres, Kelvin, Kingsgate, Lindsayfield, Mossneuk, Murrayhill,  Nerston,  Newlandsmuir, Peel Park, Philipshill, St Leonards, Stewartfield, The Murray,  The Village, West Mains, Westwood, Westwoodhill and Whitehills.
