What Do You Know About System Softwares?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

System software is a general term that refers to any computer software which manages and controls the hardware so that application software can perform its task efficiently. It is an indispensable part of the computer system. An operating system is an obvious and clear example, whilst an OpenGL or database library is less obvious examples. System software contrasts with application software, which are programs that help the end-user to perform exact, productive tasks, such as word processing or image manipulation.

System software is termed as firmware if it is stored on integrated circuits (non volatile storage). Systems software is a set of programs that organizes, utilizes, coordinates and control hardware in a computer system. It may include operating systems, the device drivers, diagnostic tools, the servers, the windowing systems, the utilities and more. The main aim of systems software is to just to insulate the applications programmer as much as possible from the details of the particular computer complex being used, especially memory and other hardware features, and such accessory devices as communications, printers, readers, displays, keyboards, etc.

Programming software and system software must not be mixed with each other as programming software mostly provides tools to help a programmer while writing computer programs and software using different programming languages in a more convenient and efficient way.
