 The word "odium" is a noun and refers to the quality or state of being odious. It also means an aversion, contempt and a strong dislike. It is also referred to as a disgraceful state that has resulted from detestable or hateful conduct. The word comes from the Latin word for hateful.

Synonyms of Odium include detestation, loathing, abomination, execration and abhorrence and its antonyms are honour, delight, respect, regard and approval.

Odium can be defined as a shame or dishonour or the loss of ones good name and the state of detestation that an individual achieves bears also a measure of hatred.

The word "Odium" is "had" or "modvilje" in Danish, "reprobation" or "generale" in French, "odio" or "rancor" in Potugese and "odio", "reprobacion" or "oprobio" in Spanish.
