When Was Reading Football Club Founded?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Reading Football Club was formed in 1871. The club has played at a handful of different grounds. These include Reading Recreation Ground, Reading Cricket Ground, Coley Park, Caversham Cricket Ground and Elm Park.
They now play at the Madejski Stadium which is named after the club's chairman, John Madejski. The stadium has a capacity of 24,250 but following Reading's promotion to the Premiership for the first time in the club's history, it intends to extend the ground.

Reading, which is located in Berkshire, is famous for a brand of biscuit, called 'Hunter & Palmers' biscuits. This fact lead to the first nickname of Reading FC which was 'The Biscuitmen'.
However, during the 1970s this nickname was changed to the rather less interesting 'the Royals'.

Reading FC finished as Champions of the Football League Championship in the 2005/06 season, gaining them automatic promotion to the Premiership division.
