A listed building is a term used in the UK which means a building which has outstanding historical or architectural reference. All listed buildings are protected and cannot be destroyed by law. Neither can they be changed in any way unless prior permission has been granted. Owning a listing building may also mean that you must maintain it. The owner could face prosecution if they do not keep up the maintenance. It's therefore advisable to have good building insurance. There is another classification which pertains to ancient buildings or structures. These are known as Scheduled Ancient Monuments.

Does the listed building regulations only apply to the outside or cover the inside as well? Can I modify the inside of a commercial listed building?
