The river Nile flows through nine countries and passes through the length of Eastern Egypt before emptying into the Mediterranean. The river is also known to flood every few years and this helps make the valley fertile. Water has a tendency to heat and cool at a slower rate then land. Hence during the day the Nile valley is slightly cooler then the surrounding dessert and at night slightly warmer. The green cover that the irrigated valley of the Nile provides also tends to be cooler than the rest of Egypt's desert landscape.

Egypt has hot weather from May to September and cooler weather between November and March. Egypt also experiences northern winds which help to moderate its temperature. Near the coast the climate is more humid yet it fluctuates between 37 and 14 º Celsius. Desert temperatures are much more extreme ranging between highs of 46 º and lows of sub zero temperatures.
