What Does Semi-evergreen Mean?

The term semi-evergreen is composed of two words- semi and evergreen. Semi is the Latin word and is generally used as prefix. It means 'half' or 'partially', incompletely or somewhat. Evergreen is used to describe the plants that are fresh or green and continue to have foliage for a whole year. Thus, the term semi-evergreen conveys that they are evergreen but incompletely.

There are different seasons and during the seasonal transitions trees or plants undergo structural changes. During the autumn, the leaves of plants wither away. Evergreen plants do not show this trait. The leaves fresh and the plants endure the cold winters without losing their leaves. The semi-evergreens do lose some part of their green but most part is retained during the winters.
