Jeremiah is a masculine name. It finds its usage in Biblical terms as well as in the Jewish. It has been taken from the Hebrew name Yimiyahu that had the meaning Yahweh has uplifted. It was also the name of a major prophet in the Old Testament.

Jeremiah was the author of the Book of Jeremiah and the Book of Lamentations supposedly. His basic aim to live was to see the destruction of Jerusalem in Babylonian in the 6th century B.C. Jeremiah is also the name of the heart broken prophet whose heart was rending life. His prophecies went unheeded by the people of Judah. He basically had the prophecies of dire warning.
