What Are The Capitals Of Africa And Austrailia? Not Really A Brain Buster But Hey.

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The capital of Australia is Canberra, a city with a population of around 328,000 people. It is the largest inland city in Australia, though, to be fair, there isn't all that much competition since most of Australia's population tend to live along the coastal regions.

Canberra lies in the Australian Capital Territory, about 190 miles south west of Sydney. Like Washington DC which was selected to avoid arguments, Canberra was chosen as the capital city so as not to offend Sydney and Melbourne. And also like DC, Canberra was  purpose-built as a planned city to serve as the nation's capital.

There is no capital of Africa because Africa is a continent made up of 61individual countries in the same way that South America, for example, is made up of such sovereign states as Brazil and Argentina etc. Africa is the world's largest continent and second only to Asia in terms of population numbers.
