What Tips Do You Have Regarding Driving In Hot Climates?

Before setting out, check the coolant levels while the engine is cold and the vehicle parked on level ground.

Keep the car in the highest gear possible, even uphill. This reduces engine revs and the temperature. With automatic transmission, avoid using the kick-down function.

At the end of your journey, do not switch off immediately but let it idle for two or three minutes.

If the temperature gauge enters the red zone while you are driving, pull over as soon it is safe, but do not switch off the engine. Pop the bonnet open to let cool air into the engine bay. Turn the cabin heater to its hottest position and turn the fan to high.

If you have cold water to hand, pour it carefully over the radiator until the needle on the temperature gauge has fallen below the red zone. It is then safe to switch the engine and fan heater off.

On no account, remove the radiator filler cap while the engine is hot or you will be badly scalded. Do not top up the radiator until the engine has cooled down to at least normal working temperature as indicated by the temperature gauge.
