What Are The Main Causes Of Death For People Under Age 35?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Globally, for persons over 1 year of age (so discounting infants) and under 35 years old, the top four killers in developed countries are road traffic accidents, suicide, homicide and AIDS. The relative position of those 4 juggles around depending on the country, the gender and the year (suicide for young men especially peaks and troughs).  Homicide is a major killer in North America, much less elsewhere.

Next most common killers of young people are non-road-traffic accidents, cancers of all kinds and sudden cardiac failure, usually caused by undetected heart defects, rather than lifestyle.

Outside of the developed world, AIDS and other infectious diseases are big killers.  Type II diabetes (the type of diabetes strongly linked to lifestyle rather than genetics) is overtaking malaria as a global killer, too.
