Well, according to AHA (American Heart Association) 60-90 bpm is the range for a normal resting heart rate. Now, depending on the level of physical fitness you have, the range could be at one end or the other. For instance, a trained soccer player might reflect a resting heart rate of 40 BPM or even lower, while an unfit person at the same age and weight reflects 90 BPM. If you find your heart rate to be toward the upper end of the range, get a physical and have your cholesterol checked out. If you are in the middle or lower end, either keep at the gym or get in one to add years to your life. Focusing on cardiovascular fitness along with healthy eating can dramatically change one's life. When you wake up in the morning, before you get out of bed, check your pulse for 10 seconds. Multiply that # by 6 and you have your RHR. To determine your maximum heart rate, you must do this math: 220 - AGE = Max Heart Rate. In order to further understand your target heart rate range for exercise take your max HR and multiply it by 55% and 85%. This range is safe for just starting out and for those who are deemed physically fit. Stay toward the lower range in order to not damage your body while exercising. Hope this helps :-)
