In order to become a teacher you will need to obtain a college degree and certification in a specific area that you would like to teach. The minimum you will need a Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited university or college. These degrees are usually completed in about four to six years; and the classes that you will take will prepare you to be an effective teacher who is able to work in a diverse population of students. You will learn about different types of students and learning styles, and how to handle discipline issues and other situations that are faced by many schools today. Most college programs have very high quality teacher education programs.

Once you decide on a college or university, you will also need to focus on the area in which you would like to teach such as English, Science, Social Studies, Reading, etc...You will also need to take a certain number of classes in your concentration area and obtain a certification in the specialty area.

These are the minimum requirements to become a teacher in most schools.
