Fluorescent means pertaining to fluorescence. It means something that exhibits or generates through fluorescence, for example, fluorescent light.

It may also refer to something that glows as if with fluorescence, as in the case of bright neon colours.

Fluorescence is the release of radiation that is electromagnetic in nature. It is mostly in the form of visible light that is introduced in an object through the incorporation of incident radiation and continuing only as long as the radiation persists. Fluorescence is also the property credited to objects that emit this kind of radiation. The radiation thus given out is also called as fluorescence.

Fluorescence is usually described as a luminescent release that occurs due to the flow of some type of energy into the body that is emitting. This emission ceases abruptly when the energy stops.
