I would like to find out why does the colour of the tar lighten with time.

One of the reasons could be that dirt gets on the road and lightens the appearance of it.
The sun is also responsible for lightening the colour of a paint job on a car if it's in the sun too long. It's possible that because the road is black it attracts the suns rays even more and is lightened due to intense exposure.

There are different elements depending on where you live: intense sun exposure, dust, dirt and pollen, normal wear from the road being used. As the road is travelled the tar is compressed by the weight of the vehicles. But I'm not sure if this would have any affect on the colour or not. Yes. I think that 2 roads constructed of the same material in 2 very different parts of the world would show different signs of ageing/wear.

Do you think that the same 2 roads laid at the same time but at different places, one in the tropical country and another in the Northern/ Southern part of the globe where there're less sunlight, would make any difference to the result? Suppose other things remain constant.
