Although it may be prescribed for stds including gonorrhea or syphilis, it is also good medicine for pneumonia, bronchitis, a bad case of acne, urinary tract infection, certain gut problems, skin problems, and other very innocent illnesses.
No way to know for sure without simply asking -- calmly. Not expressing suspicion, but concern whether this person is feeling well. Your loved one may not even know what an std is, so don't be too suspicious too quickly.
