What Is Text Messaging?

Text Messaging is basically a term that is used commonly for sending of short text messages from mobile phones. The service used for Text Messaging is called Short Message Service or SMS.

This service is available only on digital mobile phones and on personal digital assistants. This service is most commonly used for person to person messaging. However, it is now also used for interaction with automated  systems for ordering products and services etc.

SMS is gaining immense popularity worldwide. According to statistics, around 500 billion SMS messages were sent in the year 2004 which is double the number sent in 2001.
