Is Anybody Allergic To Certain Raw Fruits And Vegetables?

I am allergic to raw fruits and vegetables, and trying to figure out more about this allergy. So far, people have told me that it is only high sugar carb fruits and vegetables. I developed this condition when I became a teenager, and it runs in my family.

My mom is allergic to corn and can only eat it certain ways so it doesn't bother her. She can't eat strawberries at all. You can get tested at your local allergy doctor for some things and to test for allergies for foods you have to completely stop eating an item for three days, and then eat it by itself and see if you have a reaction. Some reaction are sleepiness, rash, redness, itching, swelling, hives, sneezing, coughing, bronchoconstriction, wheezing, dyspna, and sometimes asthma attacks, ears feeling full or in pain, abdominal pain, bloating, vomiting, diarrhea, and sinusitis.

I'm actually allergic to bananas and usually vegetables with lots of... Spicy flavor? Whenever I eat them, I luckily don't suffer the swelling and whatnot, but I do experience a very irritating itchy sensation on my gums.

yep, I definitely get the itchy sensations... but I also get mild swelling. However, bananas suck because I get itching in my inner ear. =( ugh... what a weird feeling.

I am allergic to cucumber. I have a friend who would get huge red blotches on her arms if she were to eat bananas

I seem to have an allergy to certain raw fruits.. Like apples, pears, melons, peaches, plums, I also cannot eat raw carrots, however I can eat cooked apples and cooked carrots. I can eat some other raw vegetables but things like broccoli and cauliflower, I can only eat a little bit each time because my tongue starts to get itchy and I have a hard time breathing. I have yet to find a Dr. Who's been able to tell me exactly what I might be allergic to and if there is something in them that may be removed when they are cooked. Another allergy I have is to NUTS! I have yet to be tested for them individually because when I was first tested, I was tested for all at the same time and had such a bad reaction they couldn't really tell if I was allergic to all or just some. Next time I go for a test, it wont be a scratch test, it'll have to be a blood test.

Yes, I am allergic to pretty much all raw fruits & veggies (although I am able to eat when cooked). I am also allergic to nuts and soy. This is very annoying, especially since I love them. I've found that some allergic reactions are worse than others...definitely cannot eat apples, carrots, soy, but I've learned to accept the reactions when I eat lettuce or tomatoes (not as bad...my lips swell up but I can live with that).. I wish there was something that could be done to stop this. Eating them cooked is just not the same!

I have very similar allergies that started when i was a teenager (13yrs old). Some are worse than others, some just depend on the ripeness. I can eat green grapes but I can't do the red grapes. My allerigst will not test me foods, he just tells me to avoid the things i have a reaction to. My throat swells, my tongue and roof of my mouth itches, my ears ring and sometimes i get hives. There has to be a doctor or nutrionist out there that knows something - and can advise on healthy eating!!

When i eat watery fruit and veg such as cucumber, melon, peppers etc. My throat and ears itch, the pain in my ears can be almost unbearable... But when i went to the doctors for allergy tests the told me i wasn't allergic! Phhff! They didn't have another explanation for the pain and itching though...!!

I am allergic to raw fruits and vegetables too, its actually the protein in them that i am allergic to, thats why when i cook them i can eat them, because the protein is broken down when heated!

An ex-boyfriend of mine claimed that he was allergic to all raw fruits and veggies. I don't know if that was true, or if he was just making things up. In any case, it didn't work out because he ate nothing but meat, and I am a vegetarian! :p
