Plymouth is the largest city in Devon although Exeter is the administrative centre. Plymouth with approximately 250,000 inhabitants has one of the largest natural harbours in the world making it historically famous as a naval port.

Exeter has about half the population of Plymouth and the Meteorological Office located there, moving from Bracknell in 2004 and becoming one of the biggest employers in the city.

The English Riviera is situated in Devon and comprises of Torquay, Paignton and Brixham. These towns are all close together and with their mild climate gained this title by being visited by thousands of holiday makers every year.

Newton Abbot although only a small market town is famous for having a racecourse and three country parks all on it's doorstep. Tiverton is the mid Devon administrative centre and although industry declined over the centuries even into the late 1900's it had a major revival in the 90's and has once again become a popular destination for visitors.
