Is There Many Irish In Quebec?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

According to a census that was taken in 2001, the total Irish population in Quebec is about 291,545 which accounts to about 5.09% of the entire population. They are the third largest nationality here after the Canadians and the French who account to about 68% and 28% respectively. Canada in general and Quebec in particular has the most eclectic mix of nationalities. Along with the French and the Irish one can find the Scottish, the English, Jewish, Haitians, Germans and North American Indians all existing here. Canada is often called a melting pot of cultures and Quebec just stands testimony to this statement. In terms of religion as well, the majority of the people are Christians followed by the Roman Catholics and others like the Protestants, the Orthodox, the Jewish and the Muslims form a rather tiny majority. A lot of Quebec's population has been owed to Canada's booming industry and development and the subsequent immigrations.
