What Is Bentonite Clay Used For?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Bentonite clay is extracted from volcanic ash, and has long had a variety of industrial and commercial uses. It comes in two forms, either sodium-dense or calcium-dense.

Also contains aluminium.  The sodium-dense form swells tremendously when water is added to it.  This makes it very useful for a variety of industrial purposes, especially sealing up nuclear power plants and quarantining polluted ground-water.  In either the calcium-dense or sodium-dense forms, it's also useful as kitty litter, in cement, an adhesive, rocket nozzles, no end of applications.

The calcium-dense form has become popular in the West to ingest it as part of a "detox diet".  A practice called geography - which is basically eating clay to somehow scrape out your insides.

And who am I to say it doesn't have benefits if taken internally?   Except that there are no scientific studies to suggest it does, and can't say I fancy cement or kitty litter on my insides, to be honest.
