According to the American Marketing Association, marketing can be defined as an organizational function and a set of processes for creating, communicating, and delivering meaning to customers and for managing customer relationships in ways that profit the organization and its stakeholders. A person who has an item that he needs to sell and seeks another person who might want that item, he is involved in marketing. Advertising and Branding are the most used methods of marketing. A product needs to be marketed or advertised for the following reasons: To let customers know of existing facilities, raise customer awareness about the product, to divert customers from rival businesses and improve and maintain image of the business. A product can be marketed through various mediums viz. through Media (television and radio), Print (newspapers and posters), and Communication (leaflets and websites).

Marketing more than any other business function, deals with customers. Creating customer value and satisfaction are the heart of modern marketing thinking and practice. The simple definition is this one: Marketing is the delivery of customer satisfaction at a profit. The twofold goal of marketing is to attract new customers by promising superior value and to keep and to keep current customers by delivering satisfaction.
Sound marketing is critical to the success of any organization large and small, for profit or nonprofit, domestic or global. Large for profit firms such as McDonald's, Sony, FedEx, and Marriott use marketing; but so do nonprofit organizations such as colleges, hospitals, museums, and even churches. Moreover marketing is practiced not only in the United States but also in the rest of the world. Most countries in North and South America, Western Europe, and Asia have well developed marketing systems.
Even in Eastern Europe and other parts of the world in which marketing has long had a bad name, dramatic political and social changes have created new opportunities for marketing. Business and government leaders in most of these nations are eager to learn everything they can about modern marketing practices.

Marketing is a term that is associated with the promotions of the products and the services. It includes both advertising and branding and it sometimes also used as a term for trading. It deals with the process of introducing a product for a target market, then designing the best mix of product, price, place and promotion for the market and then promoting it.
There are various objectives of marketing like firstly it deals with the increasing sales of the customers, secondly, it increases the awareness of the customers about a specific product or service. Marketing also determines the image and positioning of the product in the eyes of the customers.
Obviously companies can never directly face the customers to explain their vision and mission of the business, therefore, marketing makes the company prominent and visible in the industry. The scope of marketing is very broad and it starts with the introduction of the product in the market and extends till the distribution of the products.
