    The country Chile, officially called the Republic of Chile is located in south-west region of South America. The country occupies a long and narrow strip on the west coast, wedged between the Pacific Ocean and the Andes mountains. The country of Peru lies to the north while Bolivia lies to the northeast. On the east is Argentina and at Chile's southernmost tip is the Drake Passage.

    Santiago is the capital while Arica and Antofagasta are other important cities. The official language is Spanish and the vast majority of the population is Roman Catholic. In addition many tourist destinations there are a large number of national parks that one can visit in the country.

    The Chilean peso is the official currency and other currencies are not usually accepted everywhere. Therefore it is advisable to carry pesos rather than US dollars or Euros and ask your travel agency or guide where to exchange currency.
