Indian cuisine involves the use of a number of spices and condiments and in some cases herbs; additions are made in the form of curry paste usually of green or red chilies or in powder form comprising various spices like cinnamon, pepper, cumin, coriander, turmeric, chilies, mustard, saffron and the like in a dry and ground form. The final taste of any dish prepared using curry paste or powder would be different and it depends on one's preferences in taste.
In most dishes though curry powder would be the preferred choice as not only is it convenient to use but also results in an even flavoring of the dish. Also curry powder has a longer shelf life and consequently retains its flavor for a longer period of time. For best results one could use curry powder as the main seasoning agent and add a bit of curry paste which will give an extra zing to the dish.
