No, it's not actually, it's rubbish.
I'm sorry to be so pushy, but it upsets me when people get pets and then don't look after their needs properly.
Dogs are incredibly social animals. Their natural habit is to live in large packs, constantly interacting with each other. They are just as social as people and they need company just as badly.
House dogs take their owners and the household residents to be their pack. If your dog is on his own a lot he's socially deprived and you're very likely to find behavioral problems developing, from sheer boredom if nothing else.
Ideally you should spend as much time as possible with your animal. Why did you get a dog if you don't want to spend time with it? I's just plain unfair to have a dog and not meet its needs properly; they should be in the company of people or other dogs nearly all the time.
At the very least you should get another dog to keep your Shepherd company.
