This all depends on the individual distance learning academy. Many distance education programs that are completed online will measure direct lecture hours by calculating the number of minutes or hours a student has spent in the school's curriculum or learning management system (lms). Many times, when a student logs in, the date and the times are recorded into the computer system. Many learning management systems will also keep track of how many minutes or hours the student has spent on a particular lesson and show any work that they may have completed and submitted for grading.
This is the way many distance education programs measure their direct lecture hours. Some other programs may count the time that they actually spend working with the student either on the phone or in an online chat room or classroom.
So, basically, it all depends on how the program chooses to measure lecturing hours, is how it is done. The measuring of lecture hours is different from school to school, so the best way to learn this information would be to ask the school directly or ask the director of a distance education program.
