    The District of Thanet was formed on 1 April, 1974. It is situated in Kent in South East England. This district covers the area of Isle of Thanet. Margate, Ramsgate, Broadstairs and St Peter's urban district were all brought together to constitute Thanet in 1974.

    The district of Dover lies to the south of Thanet and the City of Canterbury district lies to its west. Railway lines are all around the island and there are two routes to London. Thanet is connected to North Kent Coast, Canterbury and Dover by road links. Kent International Airport is situated at Manston.

    Thanet has 23 wards. The costal resorts of Broadstairs, Margate and Ramsgate cover some of the 23 wards. Thanet has an area of 103.30 sq Km. According to 2005 data, it is estimated to hold a population of 128,100.Acol, Birchington, Broadstairs, Cliffsend, Manston, Minster, Monkton, St Nicholas-at-Wade and Sarre are the parishes situated in this district.
