If you are looking to take some time out from normality and get some experience working abroad, there are loads of schemes and placements out there to get signed up to. Of course if you are short of cash, you will need to get your expenses paid for you. There are many options such as season work (through travel companies), Camp America (which involves supervising kids), voluntary work in third world countries and also teaching English as a foreign language.

I'd recommend applying for a season - you can either do a summer or winter and whichever way, you're bound to have a great experience. If you don't mind being away from the comforts of home and are not afraid of some hard work this is ideal. Mark Warner and Crystal are both major tour operators who run seasonal placements. Many people love the lifestyle so much they return year after year to work again. I must warn you the money is pretty terrible, but you have to bear in mind they pay for everything for you - flights, accommodation, food and perks such as ski equipment and lift passes.
