What Is An Electrical Generator?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

An electrical generator is a device which is widely used for electromagnetic induction. Mechanical energy is converted into electrical energy through this device. The task of energy conversion is accomplished by the use of a motor.

The first electromagnetic generator of the history of mankind was invented by Michael Faraday during the period of 1831-32. It was named after his name as 'Father day's disc'. It was generally a type of homopolar generator. A copper disc was rotated between the poles of a horseshoe magnet. The dynamo was the first electrical generator that was used to deliver power to the industries of that time.

The electrical generator doesn't produce electrical charge but it produces an electrical current. The maximum power theorem is concerned to generators as it does to any foundation of electrical force.  Virtually generators are not frequently considered to activate at maximum power output but a lower power output where efficiency is better.
