What Are Plate Boundaries?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Plate boundaries are the places where the plates inside the earth meet with each other. These are the meeting or interaction point of different plates. The points at which they met are characterized by a wide deformed area because it is here that the plates interact with each other. These boundaries can be classified into three types which are conservative, divergent and convergent. The reason for this classification is based on the motion exhibited by each plate type. The divergent plates are called the spreading center in which two plates move away from each other, exposing what is inside. As a result magma flows out of the cracks and leads to the formation of ridges in the ocean. The second type of boundary is a convergent boundary in which one plate overrides another one which causes the lower plate to crumble over time. These plates are the sources form which earth quakes develop. In a conservative plate, the plates just slide past each other and no plate is damaged in the process.
