There are four distinct climatic regions in Brazil which is in South America: the Amazon Basin, the Brazilian plateau, the coastlands within the tropics and the southern states.
The Amazon Basin is the major area in the world which has distinctive equatorial climate, with rainfall in some places exceeding 2000 mm (80") In other places, however, the high humidity and monotony of the temperatures serve to make unpleasant conditions.
The Brazilian Plateau, being south of the Amazon Basin and at a moderate altitude, has rains about 1500 mm / 60" between October and April. In the dry northeast, however, irregular rainfall leads to prolonged droughts.  In the South, the mixture of heat and high humidity can be unlikable at night.
The southern states experience a warm temperate climate while the coast experiences distinct cooler temperatures, which can produce frosts.   Cold air of the Antarctic often influences the area's climate. In summers, temperatures can go up to levels similar to the tropical regions.
