This Question is Answered

We Adopted A 2yr Spade Female. She Is Lab/Aust.Shepard. They Had Her Outside In A Kennel With 2 Other Large Dogs. We Are Having Some Problems W/constant Need Of Attention & Interaction With Our Rat Terrier. What Should We Do?

She is a very sweet and well-behaved dog. If she is in one room and we are in the other room she will whine and bark. Will go hide in the bedroom and can't get her to come out sometimes. She seems afraid of the little dog, but yet will growl at him. The little dog, who is usually more agressive in the past with all other dogs won't come by her. Is there something that can be done to change these behaviors without making her mean or even more skiddish?

Teach her to sit on command by holding a small titbit just above her head while saying "sit". Give her the titbit as soon as her bottom touches the floor. She will learn this fast, as Aussies and Labs both like their food. When she has got the hang of it, teach the terrier the same. Then get them in the same room, at opposite sides - you will need 2 people. Get both to sit, and treat them. Gradually get them nearer each other while doing the exercise. Then you can do the same thing teaching them down, or "shake hands", whatever you want. They will learn that they both get attention when they are together and will gradually relax around each other.

She needs obedience training--try Petsmart--give her time to adjust --she's missing the other 2 dogs.
