It depends on your definition of the word film. 1Gb will allow you one very small film. I would venture a guess as to about half an hour long.
Normal DVD's hold one film and have 4Gb's.
Also, a lot depends on the formatting of the film. Whether it is an AVI, MP3 etc.

There is a way to get more onto a dvd or cd. For this you must have software like NERO which you can use to compress a movie and record it onto a cd or dvd. By my quick math, you should be able to get around 10 movies onto a cd if you know how to do it correctly.
