You should speak to your GP, midwife or health visitor, too.

If the pain is in the b reasts it could be "normal". Because of the way the milk comes in to cause swelling. If you have chosen to not try breastfeeding, your midwife should be able to advise you how to make the drying out period most comfortable.

If you are breastfeeding, then all I can say is that the twinges will pass. It may take weeks, and it's as much an adjustment for your body to get used to breastfeeding as it was to get used to being pregnant.

If the pain is in the b easts but quite deep or sharp, especially if you feel at all feverish, then you could be developing mastitis. This is potentially a serious infection. Midwife and GP should be able to advise. The usual advice is to feed as frequently as possible off the affected sides; you can take antibiotics if it doesn't sort itself quickly.

If none of the above doesn't seem to fit, strongly suggest you see GP soon. Post-partum mothers are more prone to infections than usual; part of the after-effects of suppressed immune system that they had in pregnancy.
