What Deer Do We Get In Britain?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Britain is home to 6 species of deer, namely; Chinese Water Deer (Hydropotes inermis), Fallow Deer (Dama dama), Muntjac (Muntiacus reevesi), Red Deer (Cervus elaphus), Roe Deer (Capreolus capreolus ) and Sika Deer ( Cervus Nippon).

The Chinese Water Deer mostly inhabits on marshy ground and reed beds to dry land.

The Fallow Deer is found across England. This deer is usually found in three different colours: Black, shades of brown with white spots and sometimes entirely white.

The Muntjac species was first found only in China. However, over the years this deer has been spotted in Britain and is the smallest deer species living in the wild. It has a very different shade to its skin; it is mostly deep shiny brown to a rusty ginger in color.

The Red Deer is the biggest land mammal found in Great Britain. It is deep reddish-brown in color.

The Roe Deer is found mostly in Scotland, South and East England and Lake District. It is generally sleek glossy red in summer and in winter it changes its colour to dull grey brown.

The Sika Deer was originally found in Far East, but today it has spread far and wide in Britain.
