Hurricane season is in and i'm not sure if i am responisble to protect the windows or if my landlord is supposed to protect the windows.

You would need to contact your landlord to see if he will furnish plywood for your windows, let them know it would be to his or her best interest to protect their home, Check your rental lease to see if there is any mention of this. The worst case senerio offer to pay 1/2 of the cost. And if you need help installing the plywood ask for help.
