The Yemin Moshe Quarter is a suburb which faces the western side of Jerusalem in Israel. The holy city of both Christians and Jews is also known as the Old City. The Yemin Moshe is named after Sir Moses Montefiore (1774 to 1885). There are about 130 houses in the scenic neighbourhood of Yemin Moshe. This locality was first set up outside the walls of the Old City of Jerusalem in the year 1891, six years after the death of Sir Moses Montefiore, who lived upto the age of 111. The border between Israel and Jordan is located in the Hinnom Valley just below Yemin Moshe. The suburb of Yemin Moshe has an admirable character in the sense that during the Israeli War of Independence, the enemy entered Yemin Moshe and completely surrounded it on all sides. However, it was able to put up a brave front in the face of adversity. It was abandoned during the 19 years of occupation by Jordan, which eventually resulted in the conflict in the year 1967.
