    It has a population of 784,301 inhabitants in this island according to the census in July 2006. Seventy seven per cent of the population is Greeks while 22 per cent inhabitants are Turkish and the rest five per cent make up the rest of the population.

    Cyprus is an island located in the Mediterranean Sea to the south of Turkey. Its full name is Republic of Cyprus. It was a former British colony. It became independent in 1960. Nicosia is the capital of Cyprus. There are two main communities in this region. They are the Greek Cypriot majority and Turkish Cypriot minority. Often there are problems between these groups which came to a head in 1963 and caused a lot of inter communal conflicts.
