What Is The History Of Middlesbrough Football Club?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Middlesbrough Football Club was formed in 1876.

As was popular with many cricket teams towards the end of the 19th century, the MIddlesbrough Cricket Club decided to play football during the winter months to keep up their physical fitness levels so that they would be ready to return to cricket the following year.

The first few years of the club's existence were a bit rocky, as Middlesbrough couldn't seem to decide whether to be an amateur or professional club. They became professional in 1889, returned to being amateurs in 1892 and became professionals again in 1899.

The club has never won a League Title and won it's first trophy in history in 2004 which was the League Cup. However it did reach third place in the table in the season of 1913-14.

In the season of 2005/06, Middlesbrough finished in 14th place in the Premiership table.
