The word existential is "to pertain to or to relate to human existence or experience." It is an adjective form of the noun existentialism, which implies uniqueness of existing in a hostile or a foreign environment. Something which is the result of pragmatism, practicality or observation also implies existentialism. Here is an example of the usage of the word in a sentence: The philosopher states that there is an existential risk in not using the mind in matters of love and money.

A part of the sentence construction which indicates existence is also called "existential" in the linguistics parlance, for example: There is a spider on the wall. In this sentence, 'there' implies the location of the existence of the creature. It is believed that the word became a part of popular English literature somewhere in the late 18th century.
