Who Designed The Taj Mahal ?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The Taj Mahal was built in 1631-48 by the Emperor Shah Jahan. It is basically an elabrate tomb for his wife, Arjuman Banu Begum.

It was designed in an elegant Islamic style made of carved marble. The tomb is made of carved solid marble and is framed by a mosque and a counter-mosque built from red sandstone. These mosques are set apart from the tomb with minarets which are smaller than the dome of the tomb to emphasize its presence.

The whole structure is surrounded by well laid out walled gardens.

This structure was built because of the true love between an Emperor and his beloved wife. As such the beauty of the structure is given even more beauty by its history and is one of the most poignant and dramatic structure in the world today.

Although attributed to Emperor Shah Jahan, the actual technical design was probably done by one or more of the following: Istad Usa, Ustad Ahmad Lahori, Isa Muhammad Effendi, or Geronimo Veroneo.
