Where Are The Headquarters Of The United Nations?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The United Nations' headquarters are based in the United Nations Building, which is in the United Nations Plaza, East River, New York.
The United Nations was founded in 1945 and replaced the League of Nations which had been set up in 1919, following the first World War and had not been successful.
The United Nations was set up with 50 member countries, which has now grown to 192 member states.  The building in which it is housed was built on land donated by the billionaire, Rockefeller and opened officially on the 9th Januray 1951.
Given the age of the building and the growing role of the United Nations,  other locations to house the Headquarters are currently being considered.
Although the Headquarters are in New York, other United Nations offices are kept throughout the world,  with over 6 offices in Europe, so that the United Nations is not seen as too closely linked with the USA.
