    This all depends on what type of brakes you have. New bikes are now favouring the disc brake system whereas older bikes will have the standard brakes pads. Please make sure you read the manufacturers bike guide before performing any maintenance on your bike. Your safety is paramount so if you don't feel confident about changing/fixing your brakes then get a professional to do it. They only charge a small amount and you'll feel much better knowing that they've been fixed properly.
