Where Are Cape Hunting Dogs Found?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Cape hunting dogs, which are found throughout the grasslands of Africa, are among the most efficient predators on the African grasslands. They have long legs and a slender build and are the perfect shape for running on the flat terrain across grass. The have the stamina to make prolonged chases and follow the swiftest and most agile antelopes over long distances with ease.

Cape hunting dogs travel in packs and frequently also hunt in packs. Once they have chased their victim into exhaustion they surround it and there is little chance of escape or survival. The pack falls on the prey and devours it quickly.

A pack of Cape hunting dogs can overcome animals much larger and more powerful than themselves including the large gnu, which can put up a spectacular fight when cornered. There is plenty of choice of prey with the rich herbivore herds such as gazelles, antelope, deer, buffaloes and capbaras.
